Heard this exact same thing in 1996 about the 97. They kept putting me off. Next quater, next month then only the camper and ONLY with an automatic transmission. I waited almost a year then got a used 93 which may be the last minivan with a 5 spd you can buy. Why would VW go to the trouble of certifying the "old" eurovan for the 98 model year when it is scheduled to be replaced in about the year 2000 with a totally new vehicle? VW of America has had real problems getting new stuff here. TDI golfs? Maybe the success that they are having with the neu beetle will give them reason to bring us some new stuff that the rest of the world gets. Here is a list: TDI Eurovans Syncro Eurovans Syncro golf/jetta VR6 Eurovan with 5 spd Sharan (sp?) They say that the Beetle will even get the 150 hp 1.8 liter 5 valve 4 cylinder turbo engine. Based on their word in the past 10 years I would not hold my breath for any of these.
