Hi Renier!

I am located in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, and your post is good news to me.
I can't speak for the rest of the membership on the Vanagon list, but it
sure is good to know that the "Vanagon Lives" somewhere in the world. The
thread I get from reading all the mail on the list is that as owners in the
USA and Canada we can expect a slow demise of our vans due to aging and
increasing difficulty in finding parts. Also, we here seem to have been
stuck with a vehicle with an extrodinarily bad engine ......the Wasserboxer
(affectionately known in some locales as the "Wasserleaker".). It didn't
need to be that way, but thats the way it is. So to hear a voice from the
ether saying new parts are being made in SA and may be available is indeed
good news. Just want to say thanks for passing it on to the list.

You can expect an outpouring of response to your post.

Have a good day!!

Subject: VANAGON WITH AUDI ENGINES

Hi there

My name is Renier Marais and I'm from South-Africa. Because I am new on this
list you might already know what I'm going to say here. Did you know that
they still make the Microbus (Vanagon) here in South-Africa? Do they still
make the Vanagon elsewhere in the world? There are three different engines
available here namely the 1.8 'Volksiebus', wich is in fact a Jetta engine.
Then you get the 2.3 and 2.6 5-silinder Audi derived Microbus and top of the
range Caravelle. According to VWSA the Microbus would not be changed to a
newer model in the near future. So if you are looking for cheap new parts,
look no further, we still make them babies! But like I said, I'm new so you
propably know this already
