Hi all,
It's been a while since I've posted to this list, as I've been travelling x-
country in my '81 Westy ("Vana"). Since I left NH about five months ago, I
have had to replace one head in Arkansas because of dropped seats (thanks to
LIMBO's directory of members I found a friend in Conway, AR) and now I'm
replacing the other one in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico for the same
reason! Since money has been tight on this trip, I've had no choice but to
replace them with SIR rebuilt heads and I'm keeping my fingers x-ed that they
will last longer than the six month warranty provides for.
Now, here's where I need help--I need to purchase a gasket kit for reassembly
of the engine and I'm looking for a better price than $101 at the FLAPS. (VW
was asking $169!!)
If anyone has recently done a rebuild and knows of an aftermarket company that
has the kit for less, pleeeez let me know soon. I'm going to buy a VW mag
today to get more leads as well.

I also need to replace the exhaust system (currently held together with
patches and clamps!) and remembered seeing a price on the list that was
reasonable for the crossover pipe. Or in lieu of that, does anyone know the
year of bus muffler that will fit on an '81 aircooled 2liter? Perhaps a
'78-79? Any prices on one of those?

Please help if you can, I really need to get out of NM and back onto the road.
"Vana" and I need to make it to the West coast in order to finish our x-
country voyage.
