Volks, Lesson learned, I stand corrected: check your exhaust for leaks and your O2 sensor first, THEN check idle speed and idle stabilizer. Of course, as someone weened on a Type IV, I can tell you what wonders a regular tune-up can do, assuming the engine has good compression all around and was out of tune to begine with. ---gerry rafferty <gerryr@direct.ca> wrote: > > Had same idle "surging" with 83 Vanagon-replaced idle sab. unit, tune > up,cleaned air sensor-still same. > Make story short I had to replace the exhaust pipe that o2 sensor sits > in-one of the 2 engine exhaust that join o2 pipe had a hole in it-welded-no > problem with surging idle since. These vans are so air sensitive. > Hopes this helps > Gerry > -----Original Message----- > From: Sam Scholten <vwvanagon@YAHOO.COM> > To: Vanagon@VANAGON.COM <Vanagon@VANAGON.COM> > Date: Thursday, April 23, 1998 8:19 AM > Subject: Re: Vanagon Blues > > > >---Goodtms4u <Goodtms4u@AOL.COM> wrote: > >> > >> This is my 1st posting.
