I know that when I get done my '85 Vanagon will have similar hp to a 2.1 waterboxer, but I believe that the reliability of the inline four motor is much higher and the cost of engine components are much lower than the boxer. So really I will be quite satisfied with the same power (my 2.1 powered Carat has plenty of power for me). I am going to be traveling all of the country in a couple of years (getting ready to go to the mission field) and if my van has any problems I want to be able to go to any FLAPS and grab a waterpump, slap it on, and keep truckin'. So there is my swap philosphy and thanks again for all the advice. Ken Wilford John 3:16 >> Now you have a timing belt to worry about and not that much room to do it either. Put a realiable 2.0 liter stock motor in this car if you are going to do this swap. You can allways upgrade this motor easily later on. Michael.
