Just got back from the Bus Depot with my new shrink-wrapped Haynes
Manual and it's great.  *Lots* of pictures (on a dirty car, so you
know what it'll _really_ look like), practical tips and hints, and a
load of good information.

I'd recommend it for any aspiring VW mechanic.
