Subject:81 Westy - should it have an O2 sensor or not?
From:Jack Reed

To be, or not to be, that isn't the question but it's what jumped from my
fingers...

Here's the question (as well as the embedded problem)...the van has always
had a problem with CO2 being in spec. I've never been able to get it down
to 1.5. I was speaking with a local VW guru who told me that all the FI
equipped motors had an O2 sensor, except that mine doesn't. The
supposition here is that a PO swapped out the current non-O2 manifold for
the prior O2 equipped type.

I don't buy any of this, but it's worthwhile to pose the question to the
group, maybe I'll get a clue to my unsmoggable issues from someone as
well.

Thanks,
Jack
