Subject:Oil Drain Threads Stripped
From:Michael A. Radtke

Hello,

I checked the archives, and I decided to use an insert or helicoil. I was
unable to find a helicoil in 14mm X 1.5, so I opted for the insert which
claimed to be 1 size oversize and self threading. (It has a smaller drain
screw in its center. However, this thing refused to thread easily, and
when I did finally get it in, it stripped the threads as well. The
stripped threads came out in little blocks making me think that the case
material is very brittle.

I see at least two options:

1) Search out the helicoil. However, will it be iffy too because of the
brittle case? And, I can't seem to find the right size.

2) Flush and dry the opening. JBWeld the insert that I bought. The rough
thread surfaces should give the JBWeld plenty of holding power.

Please post your opinions and ideas about where to get the helicoil.

Thanks for your help,
