Howdy all, Last week I posted regarding adding an auxiliary oil cooler in my 82 Vanagon Westfalia. Thanks for all the responses. They have soothed my mind in that 220 - 230 temps are not too too high. 250 - 260 is too hot. I was checking out the Autotech.com homepage looking at the auxillary oil cooler stuff and sandwich plates. They have one that is temp controlled (180 degree valve) but these are for the water cooled engines. Do any of the list vendors have access to these thermstatic plates for an air cooled VW. (2.0 l in my 82). I want to put a cooler in that closes below 180, then at 180 the valve opens to the Aux. oil cooler without the fan. When the temp hits 230 then the fan will come on for added cooling and go off at 220. The unit I was looking at had a variable temp setting. This would allow all of the moisture in the oil to be vaporized and still give me additional cooling capacity for the hot desert heat days and majotr mountain inclines. Thanks for all your help.
