To solve some of the dispute, here is some specs for SA busses 2.5l 5 Cylinder 100kw @ 5000RPM 200NM @ 3500 Bore 82.5 Stroke 92.8 175 NM @ 2000 RPM Fuel Injection K-Jetronic Wheels 205/70 14 258 Solid disks on front diff 4.833:1 1st 4.111 2nd 2.333 3rd 1.476 4th 1.023 5th 0.816 Reverse 3.667 2.6l 5 Cylinder 100kw @ 5200RPM 200NM @ 3000 RPM 190 NM @ 2000 RPM Bore 82.5 Stroke 95.5 Fuel Injection Bosch Motronic M1.5.4 Wheels changed to 205/65 15 277 Vented disks on front diff 4.571:1 1st 4.111 2nd 2.333 3rd 1.476 4th 1.023 5th 0.816 Reverse 3.667 Cheers Jimmy Sanby '89 Syncro 15" Cape Town South Africa >>> Helmut Zeidler <Helmut_Zeidler@NOTESMAIL.NOKIA.COM> 27/May/1998 09:06pm >>> >There are true 'street' 5 spds avail from VW-South >Africa, with Audi 5 cylinder bellhousings attached. >These are the 105mph versions and need the 130HP to >get there. The SA tranny does nothing have to do with the top speed. With the 5 cylinder swap to 136 hp I get the 105 mph with the old 2.0L aircooled tranny. Check http://www.relitech.com/helmut/GEARBOX.HTM for the German/US and the SA gearings. The inputshaft of the SA tranny is like the standard Vanagon, but the drive/CV flanges are of that make you will find at the Syncros. As the SA trannies are not that expensive (DM 2400.- at Winkler, Germany) you may choose to swap the whole drivetraing including the inner CVs. Helmut '80 Vanagaudi
