I had the terrible thing happen today to my 87 GL Wolfsburg...while cruising
at 70mph with wife, four children, two dogs and our picnic blankets to watch
the fireworks our  VW  rebuilt motor let go...I mean BOOM, metal parts hitting
the ground and smoke everywhere..causing the fuel line to rupture and the van
to become engulfed in flames and burn to the ground , all in about three
minutes flat....I jumped out as soon as the van stopped and threw kids, dogs,
ect out of the van and then started to use fire extinguisher...too late..the
flames were coming out from the vents..time to get out of the way and stand by
and watch by old friend burn to the ground....I am so lucky my family is safe
and sound...but makes me wonder if anyone else has had this experiance...The
rebuilt engine had about 4000 miles on it and was full of Mobil One 15w50....I
am simply amazed that it all happened so fast......so anyone have any leads on
another Vanagon?...gotta get another soon...got lots of kids and dogs to
haul...and no better way than a Vanagon....Eric
