Well I live in an apartment buliding and have only one parking space.
There is nowhere else to park a car. Parking on the street overnight is
illegal.
I bought my Toyota 10 years ago with 45k on it, 10 years later it has
95k on it and it has been my only vehicle all that time. It has never
been off the road for more than a day.
So the answer is yes some people do rely on one car, and not necessarily
a new car.
