Kevin, I bet the firmware (software) will be different even if the hardware were compatible. My 87 Syncro had a recall before to put a new ECU with differnet firmware which was suppose to fix some emission problems. Different year Digifant interchangeable? I got an '86 Vanagon Digifant ECU from the local junkyard for cheap and was wondering if it'll work in my '87. Externally they're the same, but the processor boards are different: the '86 having a Motorola 6803 uP and thru-hole PC board technology. My '87 is has a 68hc11 embedded uP and is all surface mount. Are they functionally the same?
