Thanks to all who offered advice about the air circulation fan.  I
replaced the series resisitor and all is well.  I have noted a
sporadic squeal from the fan motor (before and after replacing the
resistor) which causes me to worry that there is something wrong with
the motor.  I decided to see how long I can get by replacing just the
resistor.
