Subject:Re: ECU Chip Upgrade Info/Dennis Haynes concerns

The chip/rocker thing is better nearing critical mass in terms of having
adequate discussion.

This dude weighing in from Australia was really great.

We need to have some additional discussion of these points of Dennis Haynes:

The down side of this is increased valve guide wear
from the increased valve travel and the increase operating angle of the
rocker working against the valve. I have worked with both ratio rockers and
hi-lift cams so I have first hand experience with the increased wear this
can cause. In fact, many cars (stock) that still use rockers are going to
roller rockers to solve the valve side loading problem. My beetle running a
Cam with 40k on the engine is getting ready for a valve job now due to
guides being worn and the backs of the valve stems being all pounded out.

The point above needs to have a serious, balanced comeback, and hopefully
commentary from the austrailian fellow too.

Dennis also worries about having a richer mixture damaging the catalyst.
Yes, this thing needs to have a third round of discussion before it gets
out of the garage.

Predictions: the first additional 3 pioneers will go forward this fall. By
summer of 1999 you will have 12 orders already. By late Fall of 1999 you
will be up to 15 orders per quarter, or max out at about 60 vans a year.
There is a slight chance that if we get hit real hard with more solid info,
and the dyno results you spoke of, that you can get 10 orders in advance as
a group order, but this may not come for a few months yet or even after the
end of the year.
