In another age, enterprising young surferdudes used to TOW their
boards behind their bikes to get to the parts of the beach where
the waves were running. Southern California beaches always suffered
from lack of parking and the biking subset of the surfers never
seemed to have enough time to make enough money to buy a cool
surfin' ride...
Early windsurfing was actually done in the parking lots with a sail
mounted to the bike!
