I had a VW dealer replace the two front outer CV boots on my syncro last week as I don't have the time to do the job myself right now. One of the boots they used didn't look like the correct part for the syncro (different material, no rubber bands to cover the retaining clips) so I called the dealer and was told that they only had 1 syncro boot kit in stock and used a boot from the same manufacturer with the same specs as the proper syncro boot. The boot they used does appear to fit just fine, but I'm concerned that it won't last as long as the proper syncro boot. Plus, the boot doesn't have the rubber bands to cover the retaining clips. What is the purpose of these rubber bands? The dealer offered to replace the boot with the correct part free of charge. Seems like a no brainer to do this but actually it's quite a hassle to get the van to and from the dealer and to be without transportation for a day. So I ask for list wisdom here--should I go through the hassle of getting the proper boot? MM 87 syncro Westfalia
