Subject:AC compressor - Noisy?

With all the discussion about A/C hoses, I have a different question. My
A/C on my '88 westfalia works but I notice that the compressor is REALLY
loud. When engaged, it makes more noise than the engine. Is this normal
for the breed? I just had the unit charged recently.
