My experience has also been that it's safe to drive with the belt removed-the
steering effort is much greater at low speeds,though.So go ahead and have a
fun trip in your van,and fix it when you return! BTW,$550 is WAY out of line
for a reman. rack-should be able to get one for around $200,so shop around!
