Testing your injectors and the electrical connections and wiring to them is the next logical step. You'll need to replace the rubber seals they ride in. If your rubber fuel lines in the engine compartment haven't been replaced, it's a good time to do it; that could save you from a bad engine fire. I have the same model '82 Westy Calif. I have an 82 Vanagon Westfalia camper with the 2.0 Ljet aircooled engine. The engine is a California spec with Hall distributor. It has a miss under load especially at higher rpm's and loading. I have done the new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, and the problem persists. Is it possible that I have some kind of fuel injection problem? BTW, I also have replaced the fuel pressure regulator and have swapped out the AFC with no change. Another (unrelated?) problem is that starting from cold, overnite sitting, requires a lot of cranking. Once it has started once, there is no problem starting again, even if it sits for an hour or more. Any ideas? I'm running out.
