On 9/17/98 1:25 PM, Sudhir Desai ranted, (inspiring me to howl back) >> Why would you be against DRLs? Unless of course you are also opposed seat >> belts, air bags, turn signals, brake lights, side impact beams, etc. >the only things in this list that are useless are drl's and airbags > >IMHO, drl's are the worst safety feature anyone has come up with... >some examples of this fact. > >i was driving a rental truck that had drl's..this truck was a Chevy K3500 >crew cab dually...essentially the biggest chevy u can get without going >commercial.. and still, i almost got into 3 accidents which would not have >been my fault.. >one of them, a old lady was coming out of a driveway, stopped, and ten >came right out of the driveway going 10 miles an hour into my lane.. i >literally stood on the brakes with both feet (the truck was an automatic >so the brake pedal was wide enough to accomodate both of my feet) > I'm sorry but exactly what point do YOU think this proves. It proves nothing about DRL except that you wanted to flash a story and an axe to grind. Lil old ladies frequently get confused, etc, etc. regardless of what you drive > >that wasnt the most obvious example of how drl's are totally unnecessary. > >the most obvious example was that my dad..who swears by drl's, who even >goes as far as to turn on the lights of out jeep cherokee which doesnt >have drl's ....... i was coming up the street and my dad backed out of the >driveway right infront of me. i was going 5mph by now cause i knew he >coudnt see me, so nothing happened, but it just goes to show that drl's do >absolutely NOTHING, and when i say nothing i mean nothing, nada, rien, >zilch, nicht, etc.., etc... > >sorry bout the sermon, but i believe it was necessary. >laters people, DUH. same lack of a point here. DRL will not help a driver with a flat tire, bad breath or a lack of common sense. They do improve visibility at a very low cost, you may have to replace each bulb one more time during your ownership of the vehicle. I am all for them and nothing you nor the website quoted earlier, have said has convinced me otherwise. And as to AIRBAGS being useless, well most people (myself included) know someone who was helped, maybe even kept alive, by the deployment of an airbag. This despite earlier listening to rantings by anti-airbag people. Wish I could say nice try but I cannot. these incidents proved "absolutely NOTHING, and when i say nothing i mean nothing, nada, rien, zilch, nicht, etc.., etc...." This was the same kind of logic that was used on seat belts. I am also guessing you do not have children, because people with children they love and care for would NEVER let the small costs of DRL interefere with the safety and future of their loved ones. This is a WIN WIN WIN situation folks. I do not see anyone requiring us to retrofit our vehicles, I do not have DRL on any of my vehicles but I do use the lights whenever I drive. My only regret is that they do not automatically go out when I remove the key. -peace Ed Stevens Valley Forge PA
