I drove my old 85 Westy cross-country 2 times in 93 and 94( CA to MA and
back) and on several long (11-14 day) trips throughout the Western USA in
91.  Yes, I encountered the occasional Vanagon difficulty BUT I always
found someone out West who could fix my problem!  And I would move on the
next day and send them a postcard from my susbsequent stops along the
road!

You will find more Westy help out West than anywhere else in North
America if you need it.  Take a CB radio and a cellular phone if it makes
you feel better!  Then, pack your van and have the ride of your lifetime!
