My brother-in-law's vanagon has a quirky deal with his instrument panel.
half of it's dead.   the clock, gasometer, highbeam indicator and all... on
the right side of his instrument cluster are all dead.

any thoughts?

he poked around under there, while we we're going down the road I might
add.  (Mainly to show me how easy the cluster cover comes off.)  We noted,
during our morning carpool that half the ribbon cable looks pretty fried.

Should he look at replacing the whole cluster from a partsmobile or can he
salvage what he's got?
