Larry - My not carrying comprehensive coverage was a decision I made based on paying a VW dealer to perform an inspection of the vehicle, and my willingness to self insure. If the dealer didn't do what I paid them to do - then they are responsible also. The owner concealed a defect that may have caused the fire. The insurance agent had nothing to do with it. I wasn't willing to self insure against an expert's (ie, the dealer) negligence or the owner's concealment and fraud. Given the problems that list members have experienced with fuel lines, gas leaks, and electrical shorts, the dealer should have known to have checked these items carefully. We are all not as mechanically sophisticated as you may be. Mike
