Subject:LP Tank & FI Blues
From:Chris Smith

Just the usual again. When trying to head up to Wisconsin to enjoy the
beautifull fall colors Turd (the aptly named '82 westy) decided that other
issues were more important. 1st the LP tank sprung a leak. The tank is
leaking from a rust hole in the bottom (only rusty part in the entire bus,
and it had to be the high pressure explosive holder). Nice smell and
really scarry for the 4 hours it took to finish hissing. Not a problem I
thought since I own a good cooler and a camp stove that runs on white gas.
So with the LP tank fully drianed, and the 2 lines capped it was off to Wisc.

About 1 1/2 hours north of home the FI decides that it's time to go away.
Bad fuel pump, bad pressure regulator, bad lines, and thanks to a
"helpfull" now ex-friend, bad ECU and AFM. Thank god for nearby relatives
and AAA Towing.

At least I was able to find a good weber carb kit to replace all the FI
junk that has been plaguing the van for the last year. Before we start the
FI vs Carb wars again, I went with the carb because I really feel confident
with one, the FI system in the van was on it's last legs before last week,
I have all the replacement parts for the webber, and there is no emmision
testing for my van where I live (RV designation helps sometimes).

Here comes the call for help. I still need to find a LP tank for the
westy. The one that was on there is now off and the lines are all capped
to prevent junk getting in them. It would be nice to be able to run the
fridge overnight without plugging the van into electricity. I live in the
chicago area, but would be willing to drive into nearby states to pick-up a
good tank.

Thanks
Chris Smith
