Well... as usual I think it's a little more complicated than that. My motor has gone 155K miles and I'm rebuilding it soon. However, it runs ok and I could keep it patched together for another 50K or more, but I'm not sure I'd like how it would run. Other info would need to go along with the mileage. Year Model Year Motor Compression Miles '85 Westy GL '85 O 160-165-110-100 160K O = Original R = Rebuild Compression: 1-2-3-4 Obviously this could get pretty complex. We'd need to stick to motors that haven't had partial rebuilds. - Wil '85 Westy New Brunswick, NJ Darrell Boehler <midwesty@MIDWEST.NET> wrote: "I replaced the clutch disk on my 86 westy 247k miles in November 97 and have 21k miles on the clutch." Pretty impressive Darrell. This makes me wonder ~~ What is the most miles any Westy motor has gone before scraping or being pulled for rebuild? For rebuilt motors, count from milage when it was rebuilt. That puts all original motors and rebuilds on an equal basis. If you report about a candidate, please say if it was air cooled, water cooled gasser or diesel. With the wealth of VW experience among the List, this should be interesting. John
