In Newfoundland, Canada, the liquor stores are run by the provincial government by way of the NLC (Nfld. Liquor Corporation) and booze and wine is available only through their retail outlets. Beer however is sold at practically every little corner store or gas station around. Until about two years ago, you couldn't buy beer after 23:00 or before 09:00. Also you couldn't buy it on Sunday. Up until the late 1960's your were not allowed to buy any more than three 26oz. bottles of booze per month. The NLC would issue a pass book that you would have to get stamped when you purchased your bottles. Hmmm... sounds kind of communist to me. Any other interesting or bizarre liquor laws out there?
