Simple adjustment of the shifter plate inside the Van.  NOT, however by lining
up the holes in the upper and lower plates, as in the manual.  A bit of trial
and error (thank god I have British car experience!) and the shifting is right
on and feels crisper as well.  Thanks for all the responses!   P.
