After many years of debate (and arguments with my wife) I've decided to convert my '80 westy into a high roof. I simply can't deny the form follows function theory any longer. I saw the nicest conversion yesterday at my local VW dealer, but as is most often the case, I couldn't find any I.D. regarding the manufacturer...SO, Anyone who has any knowledge, experience, opinions, ANYTHING to say about these unique conversions, please let me know. I'm really interested in knowing where I can find one that is designed for a vanagon (I've seen quite a few duct tape/silicone chop jobs and have no interest in turning my best friend into a frankenstein!) The one I saw yesterday fit perfectly, the tailgate and windshield angles lined up perfectly with the top- looked great. The upper inside didn't look like it was intended to be a bed...just storage, but could probably go either way. I don't want anything too tall, and it has to have at least a couple small windows and a vent in the roof. I live in Colorado and would be willing to travel a reasonable distance, or find a way to have it shipped if anyone just so happens to have one lying around? salvage yards? (are there any vw salvage yard owners on the list??) Any prob's I might encounter w/ this conversion? Come one, come all -I need info...Any high roof VWclubs in the U.S.? Any interest in forming one? I've got a local van conversion place in town, but they don't seem to interested in working on a "hippy van". Any info would be much appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! T.I.A. M&MBITNER Ft. Collins, CO.
