>I have an 81 Westy which has approx. 1,000 miles on a new motor (which I >installed). I took it on its first trip, approx. 500 miles, and it ran >great until I was coming home (the last 10 miles) and noticed this noise >coming from the rear end. The noise is a clanking, clunking sound and seems >to get worse when the vehicle is under stress i.e., going up a hill or >driveway. Also, when I push the clutch in, the noise disappears. When the <motor was out I put in a new slave cylinder and T/O bearing. I am totally >stumped as to where this sound is coming from........I hope it doesnt have >something to do with end play or the pressure plate. I am not sure I have >the time or energy to drop the engine again!!! >Please, any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Scott, If you are able to watch the engine during this awfull noise, and it is jumping around, it's time to change the CVs. Do both, as the other side will get damaged soon. How many mile you have on total? But don't be that afraid, I did a whole camping trip of 7,000 km on one defective CV, the other was already replaced 1,000 km before. Regards Helmut
