Subject:Re: airbag rant

I just have to point out that while some children have been injured and
killed by airbags (in many cases because their parents ignored the simple
safety instruction to put the child in the back seat), airbags have also
saved a large lot of lives. If you are an adult riding in the front seat,
you are much less likely to be killed in a collision if there's an airbag
in front of you. The technology may not be perfect, but it's better than
not having it, by a wide margin.

It's said that the difference between an adventurer and a suicide is that
the adventurer leaves a margin of escape, and that the narrower the margin,
the bigger the adventure. In my case, I prefer to pick my adventures and
go with the stats when riding in a vehicle. As Damon Runyon said, "The
race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but that's
the way to bet."

I bet on airbags because the statistics say it's a good bet, and I put the
grandkids in the back seat for the same reason.
