I have both a annoying clicking sound and slight needle vibration in my
speedometer that varies in intensity depending on how fast I am going.  I
had a local VW dealer check it out and they said I need a new speedometer
head and cable. They want over $200 for the parts and over $100 for the
labor.  I have a Bentley manual and it looks like a simple enough job that I
can do myself, however, I'm hesitant to spend the big bucks for the parts to
fix the
constant and annoying click sound without seeing if there are other
listmembers who may have had a similar problem and found a cheaper fix other
than the standard dealer "replace all the parts and give me your money" fix.
For example, would replacing only the cable itself help?, Is there anything
I should check on my speedometer head?, etc.
