FWIW I did the same 'cure' to my son's '92 8 valve 1.8 liter Golf with Digifant; after first carefully perusing the Bentley wiring diagrams for the Vanagon & the Golf, deciding indeed they were similar enough to try, we went ahead & did it to the Golf (he'd been having similar cut-out problems to what we have with Vanagons) - and it WORKED!!! He makes a 2k round trip several times a year, & when it happened he'd just pull over, shut down, restart & go on until it'd do it again. He just called & said it ran perfectly this time. Spend the $1.10 & one hour & be amazed!!! Austin
