I did have to drill holes in my bumper, run wiring, and I spent several hours installing these lights. I would have loved to have just put in a replacement light instead. However, a big item that I forgot to mention that lead me to deciding to use the Hella XLs was that these lights are DOT-approved and street legal in all 50 states, which I don't think is the situation with E-code lights. I wanted to improve my lighting without having to worry about some cop somewhere using my lights as an excuse to pull over that strange looking hippy van or being unable to pass inspection in some state that I might move to some day. I would have paid the extra money for the $200 E-code lights to save the hassle of installing the auxillary lights and tracking down a factory switch if the legality of these lights wasn't an issue.
