The problem here is the difference between American and European cars.  Most
American cars use the same two element bulb for turn and stop while our
highly evolved Euro vehicles do not.  In my opinion, get the converter.
I've wired them on Golfs and Jetta and it's fairly easy and painless with
little mechanical/electrical ability required.  Your local U-Haul dealer
should have it in stock.
