Hi, An old tranny guy once told me you could get a couple extra laps out of a slipping tranny by putting in an ounce of brake fluid. The theory was that brake fluid softens and swells seals, just like in the brake system. It worked on my old Volvo for the better part of a year, and was very helpful, budgetwise. He warned though DON'T USE MORE THAN AN OUNCE, OR YOUR SEALS WILL TURN TO MUSH. I would also only consider this to be a stopgap remedy. Good luck, Karl Wolz -----Original Message----- From: Detlev Hanschke <DeHanschke@AOL.COM> To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Date: Monday, March 22, 1999 7:06 PM Subject: Re: automatic transmission 87 Vanagon >In a message dated 99-03-22 21:02:38 EST, you write: > ><< Subj: Re: automatic transmission 87 Vanagon > Date: 99-03-22 21:02:38 EST > From: DeHanschke > To: mhawks@ALLTEL.NET > > Hi Hawk , > Your tranny has a comon problem when they got old. > > You seal in the tranny are hard or sticking. > You will not see a leak out side ! > Your tranny is easy to overhaul and we > charge US $ 850 for this job. > We have als a High Performans kit for tjis > Transmission availebl what we recommend for our 5 Cyl. conversion > it fit also the WBX engine. > > Sincerely Detlev > Vanagon Projekt. > 925 606 8797 >> >
