Fred,

You are right, they come out together.  I just had the same problem just
last month, and it turned out to be a crack in the neck of the cat which
I had to weld. It is always best to use new gaskets (which can be hard
to find), but mine were in one piece, so I reused them and have had no
problem.  So far I have welded the exhaust system on my '84 in seven
places due to cracks!  Soon I'll be ordering a complete exhaust system
from the Bus Depot!
