This from the mouths of professionals who do >nothing but sell and install tires all day for a living. It would be nice if it was that simple. The list members who have been sold the wrong (and unsafe) tires by "professionals who do nothing but sell and install tires all day" are legion. Vanagons require either Reinforced Sidewall or Load Range C or better (like D) tires. If the tires don't say that right on them, they are unsafe no matter what a misinformed or morally flexible tire salesman tells you. Also, Vanagons require very high inflation pressures, especially on the rear (like 54 lbs). If the tires aren't rated for these higher pressures, then you can't safely inflate them high enough, and handling will be compromised, which is also unsafe. Do the right thing -- get the right tires.
