Thanks to those that responded to my question.  Now that I know what the relay is for I can see that I can either install one in my passenger van and connect an auxiliary battery to it or use a battery isolator.  Both ways should work for my conversion. I'm looking forward to putting all this information being discussed on lighting the Dometic to use.  What good timing.  The hint regarding altitude was great, too.
