I'm now planning to tow a vanagon using a tow bar.

Supposedly these things clamp around the bumper.  Will this work on
a '87 GL Vanagon bumper?

The U-Haul place says it won't work becuase of plastic cladding (I
didn't think the
'87 GL had any plaxtic cladding) and may cause bumper damage.

Anyone have any input to this?
