My GTI VR6 usually runs around 210 during the winter months and 215-20 during the summer. It has been as high as 232 during a beach traffic jam. Nothing like running 80-0 in 30 seconds and then breathing 6 miles of tail smoke to heat up the engine. >In a message dated 5/5/99 1:47:55 AM Alaskan Daylight Time, maxjoyce@IPA.NET >writes: > ><< In the old hot rodding VW engines book from the 60's, they said for every >10 > degrees your engine runs above 200 degrees, it cuts your engine life in > half!!! >> > >Volks, > > I remember reading in European Car about the Corrado and that it's >engine oil specifications called for normal ops temperature of 265 degrees! >Apparently, this is more the norm for newer engines...has something to do >with better oils today working better at somewhat higher temps than before. >Maybe one of our engineering-type listmembers could explain. > >Scott De Santi >86 Vanagon 2WD Michael Hugill Ken Leiner Associates, Inc.
