Joe--be more specific on your noises---a whine ,click,rumble,???
A bearing noise goes rrrRRR getting louder at the end of each gear-is it
quiet in 3rd,4th--on accel or decel?? Pinion bearings are the most common and
will ruin the ring/pinon if let go too long. I rebuild these for a living so
I can probably help- 3rd/4th shifting problem is the 2nd most common failure
of the early trans.
