two things I know of:

     camp out parking-lot style:  ridgewood NJ park and ride/ rt. 17 south,
     ridgewood NJ, camp in parkinglot and walk 100 feet to shortline bus/35
     minute bus ride to port authority.

     camp out super parkinglot style at camp-mor (1/2 mile south, rt. 17
     north/paramus NJ)  wake up early, buy lots of closeout camping goods,
     then hit the park and ride for bus service to port authority.

     or-Harriman state park, about 40 miles north of the city, straddling
     rockland and orange counties/bear mtn state park on hudson river end.
