Subject:Engine Swap:VW S. Africa

I am in the middle of doing the 2.0 Motronic Golf engine conversion on an '87
Vanagon. This is the conversion by VW South Africa that I referred to in earlier
forums. This is approved by VW and has been proven by years of testing in hundreds
of Vanagons through hot African deserts. So far, this conversion has been very
impressive and extremely clean. They even maintain the oil dipstick through the
license plate!
The 2.1 is out of the car. I have swapped over the power steering pump, A/C
compressor and alternator over to the Golf engine. This all mounts on one
fabricated mount attached to the side of the block. It looks perfect (Pictures are
being taken). I am preparing the engine compartment for the engine now. I should be
installing the engine next week. It looks by eyeball that the stock exhaust will
bolt right up to the pipe supplied by the factory. With the catalytic convertor! I
was told that there would be welding required for one of the engine mounts. It
turns out that this Vanagon already has the mount in the chassis! So far, no
welding required. More updates to follow.....
