No harm done. Far as I know you can use DOT3 in any VW through '91. The book say's although DOT 4 was installed in the factory, "it is completely compatible with the previous DOT 3 fluid" Coby Smolens, Owner Valley Wagonworks "Intimately acquainted with VW Vans since 1959" 1535 Sir Francis Drake Blvd. San Anselmo, CA 94960 Phone: (415) 457-5628 Fax: (415) 457-0967 http//:wagonworks.com mailto:contact@wagonworks.com -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM]On Behalf Of L&A Johnson Sent: Monday, June 21, 1999 5:47 AM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: DOT3/DOT4 ? I messed up. I need to know if I did any harm. Yesterday was brake fluid day. I changed the brake fluid in our 1986 Syncro Westfalia and our 1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo. I had a liter of DOT3 and a liter of DOT4. I didn't look in the manuals and I should have. I assumed, incorrectly, that DOT4 would go in the MR2 where higher braking temperatures were likely and that DOT3 would go in the Syncro. I was wrong. I had it backwards. Now, have I done any harm? Must I redo the job with the correct DOTs in the correct vehicles? If not, what are the consequences of leaving it this way? Any and all advice (and wise cracks) accepted. Larry
