Huh? What locates the spring perch? Is it suspended in mid-air? Or still somehow attached to the lower control arm? The fact that you call it a "shock" eliminates the possibility of it being a strut. The strut cartridge acts as the damper in a strut setup, and also as the steering axis. Is this the case with the syncro? The spring - shock thing seems to indicate two separate entities. Sorry for the jabber, I guess I'm just obsessed with nomenclature. > -----Original Message----- > From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com]On Behalf > Of Per Lindgren > Sent: Wednesday, June 23, 1999 12:47 PM > To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM > Subject: Re: SA HD Spring Rates > > > Pat Dooley wrote: > > > I was always under the impression that the vanagon has upper and lower > > control arms, not struts. > > Unless you are referring to the strut bar which locates the > lower control > > arm. > > You're right, the Vanagon has upper and lower control arms, but on the > Syncro, the lower spring mount is not on the lower control arm, > but instead > on a spring perch, making the shock and spring into a strut. > > PerL > Bug, Bus 'n 'Back >
