Pat, I wasn't familiar with these units on the syncros either until I sold a
set of the Boge front syncro shocks (more like a strut though).  2wd Vanagon
front shocks are just that, shocks.  But the syncro front shocks have a
spring perch welded to the shock body (this is why it is more like a strut).
