Subject:84 Westy & ECU replacement confusion - help!
From:Sean O'Neil
Date:Fri, 25 Jun 1999 23:29:41 -0300

Hi there, I have a 1984 Westy, 1.9L, automatic with digijet FI. My
mechanic is sure that the ECU is dead. It won't start. Fuel gets
delivered to the injectors but nothing at all happens after that. He
swapped th ECU out of another 84 he was working on into my van and it
ran perfectly.

Here in eastern Canada (NS) replacement parts are too silly priced to be
taken seriously:

$1,900 CAN for a new VW replacement,
$800 CAN for a rebuilt Bosch

I have a listmember willing to sell me a good used ECU from an 85 but I
am concerned about one detail:

My VW part # 025 906 021
Listee's Part # 025 906 021 C

Is there a significant difference? Maybe something about the difference
between 84 and 85?

Please send advice ASAP as I am turning in my leased daily driver ( a 97
Neon - yech) in less than ten days and I really really need a vehicle. I
disabled ya see and the thought of life without wheels if terrifying.

It's also late June and the highlands of Cape Breton are a callin. Ah, a
single malt, a decent cigar, and the sliding door open to a beach on the
raw ocean.

Please help.

Thanks, Sean
