re: why is it any more "against the law" than putting a 5cyl audi motor in a vanagon? Cause the engine is older than the vehicle. "Older" relates to when it was emissions certified by the gov't. Last time air cooled engine was certified was '83. Hey, all the pickup boys would be running '67 mice or rats in their new chassis if the law was otherwise.
