In most states you have an excellent case for Justifiable Homicide!!!

I think what you experienced is the downside of a good economy....when
times are bad, service places like Jiffy Lube, McDonalds seem to get a
better "quality" of employee mainly because there are lots of unemployed
out there...when the economy is good these places end up with the dreggs!
